He returns to a college reunion where a student's sister insults him. Sivaji vows to become an honest man and begins to work with his father Chandra Mohan, a removal van business owner. Gradually his family and friends realise that it is becoming difficult for Sivaji to differentiate between right and wrong when he is in the company of criminals. After some time, they realise that he has built up a gang of his own members who also have the same problem when it comes to good or bad. His gang quickly increase in size and strength. Then one day, Sivaji Ganeshan runs into his old friend Madhavulu Narasimha Rao (Vikram) who is now a powerful politician. And Madhavulu rewinds to his student days where he studies in the same college as Sivaji. Sivaji subsequently becomes an outcast among the students. Following this, Sivaji has a run-in with an activist Lakshmi Mani (Kajal Aggarwal) after she criticises him for selling smuggled items to lower class people at low prices. She accuses him of exploiting the poor. This results in Sivaji getting arrested. He finally decides to rectify his ways after having an epiphany, however, after paying his dues to society he is now free. But now he has made three enemies who are now trying their best to wreck him and his good image in the eyes of the public. This leads to a final showdown between them with Sivaji winning it all. The movie has several subplots, involving other characters like Madhavulu's sister (Kajal Aggarwal), his childhood friend (Vikram) and an old man (Amrish Puri) who tries to frame Sivaji for selling drugs. The film is loosely based on the life of Arun Gawli, who was a gangster in Mumbai. It has some scenes that are direct copies of real incidents in Gawli's life. For example, Ganeshan's entry into politics is similar to Gawli's entrance into the Samajwadi Party. The scene where two men are beaten up by Ganeshan and his men on a street is similar to an incident involving Gawli and his gang members.Soundtrack was composed by Harris Jayaraj and Released by Sony Music India. The film grossed 50 crores at box office against a budget of 10 crores which makes it biggest hits in Rajnikanth career. cfa1e77820
